Motorolla has confirmed that they will in fact release 10 android phones over the next year, with prices starting as low as $40. Boost Mobile has quite a few Motorolla handsets and there is no doubt that the lower end Android models that have been planned will make their way to Boost Mobile.
This is exciting because Android is an extremely powerful mobile operating system and, best of all, is open source. This makes it possible to make high end feature sets available in low priced mobile phones.
Let’s hope that Virgin Mobile soon receives some of HTC’s Android phones. Virgin Mobile extensively uses HTC products and it would go without saying that if BM is to release a Droid phone, than VM will soon follow.
This is very exciting, and is great news for the prepaid industry as a whole. We will soon see even more drops in cellular prices and a huge rise in features.

There are plenty of cheap prepaid cell phone options available to you, especially when you know what you really need from your handset or service plan. Obviously, if you do not text you can get away with a really cheap phone and service plan. Virgin Mobile generally offers the cheapest cell phones, and per minute usage. Below are some examples of the least expensive phones and service plans available.
Cheapest prepaid phone available:
Currently, the least expensive phone available is from Virgin Mobile USA and is the “Marbl”. The Marbl retails for $9.99, and is currently available free to new customers. When you buy the Marbl online and are a new customer, you will receive free activation, free shipping, and $9.99 worth of airtime. This is a great first phone or throw away phone, but it’s not ideal for texting.
Other Cheap Phones
The cool thing about prepaid companies is that they have started to offer free cell phones to new customers without requiring a contact. Tracfone and Virgin Mobile usually both have a free phone available.
- Motorola W175 from Tracfone ($9.99)
- Jax from Virgin Mobile ($14.99)
- Nokia 2760 from T-Mobile Prepaid ($19.99)
- i290 from Boost Mobile ($49.99)
Service Plans
Prepaid providers rates are very comparable at this time. Expect to pay 10 cents per minute and 5 cents per text message on pay as you go plans. Unlimited airtime is available from Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile starting at $49.99.
Update: StraightTalk provides unlimited service for only $45. MetroPCS has unlimited plans starting at only $30, but is only an option for those in large metros and whom will rarely be outside of their metro.

Target is currently having a 10% sale on Tracfone cards. That means the 1 year activation + 400 minute cards are only $89! You can also score 60 minute cards for only $17.99.
You can also find Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile cards on sale regularly at Target. There are sometime better deals out there on airtime cards online, but if you have to have them right away than this is a great deal.
